A resume is in fact a short summary of your professional life. Prospective Employers go through the resume first, & then later meet up with the candidate. So a resume should be simple, precise & easy to comprehend. The bigger the company & better the position, that employer would have N number of resumes. On an average an employer would spend 20 seconds going through each resume he has got. Out of those hundred resume, he would call a handful of them for an interview. If you definitely want an interview call from that employer, your resume should mention what he wants. So make sure to whom you are sending, for what job you are sending, and as per that analysis send your matching resume.

Resume Tips

Here are few tips on how to write a good resume:

1.

Begin your resume with a short summary of your experience & qualification.

2.

Write down your work experience beginning with your current company.

3.

In the work experience column, mention the company’s name, period you have worked there for, your designation, your role in 3–4 sentences and any special achievements.

4.

Give complete details of your qualification in reverse chronological order i.e. starting with the highest degree first. Mention your percentage, college, university along with your education.

5.

Mention your additional qualification under this heading. All your certifications & technical certification also come under this.

6.

Mention any other trainings or seminars that you have attended or if you have volunteered for any social cause.

7.

In the end give your complete Personal Details such as Full Name, Address, Telephone No, Mobile No, Email address, Date of Birth, Marital Status etc.

8.

Don’t write a resume more than 2 or 3 pages. Employers don’t have the time to go through such long resumes.

9.

Please try & avoid spelling mistakes, jargons & writing false information about your professional experience or qualification.

10.

Try to use bullets to differentiate some points, so it will stand out.

11.

See to it that the resume is very well formatted & the print-out is taken on a good quality paper. If you are sending it through the internet write a covering note clearly stating your career ambitions and location preference.

12.

Always keep on updating your resume, even if you are not looking for a change so if you have any good  offers coming up suddenly you won’t waste time updating your resume.
